This Committee is established under the State Emergency and Rescue Management Act 1989.
The Committee is comprised of Council officers and representatives from all emergency services, health services and community support organisations. The Committee oversees emergency management planning, preparation, response and recovery functions within the Great Lakes Local Government area.
This includes preparing and maintaining the Local Disaster Management Plan (DISPLAN) and planning for a coordinated area wide approach when responding to emergencies and assisting individuals and the community in recovering from the impact of the emergencies.
The Committee meets 3 times per year, normally in April, August and December. The Committee is chaired by the Local Emergency Management Officer (LEMO), a Council officer, and is always attended by the Local Emergency Operations Controller (LEOCON), the senior NSW Police Officer for the Local Area Command.
