What can businesses do to prevent stormwater pollution?

In general:

Ensure that no wash water, foodstuffs, grease, litter or other pollutants from business operations get into the stormwater drains.
Avoid cleaning your business premises or cement/paved areas by hosing if the wastewater goes into the stormwater drain. Instead use a broom to collect up waste matter and place the sweepings in the bin.
Use a minimum amount of detergent for outside cleaning.
Make sure that the stormwater drains on or near your premises carry clean rainwater only. Any other liquid or solid is considered a pollutant.
Where hazardous materials are used, keep spill clean-up kits in an accessible place where it is clearly labelled and ready for use.
Encourage customers to be aware of their environmental responsibilities including the appropriate disposal of litter.
