A website was developed following an inquiry into urban beekeeping which was initiated by the death of a resident of an inner Sydney suburb from multiple bee stings in 2000. The inquiry was carried out by officers of the Department of Primary Industries (DPI) and the Department of Local Government (DLG). One of the recommendations from the inquiry was that information on beehive management be developed and placed on the Department of Local Government website.
