Mission StatementThe Friends of the Great Lakes Library Service Inc. is an association of community members who value our library and demonstrate support through membership and volunteer participation. Who are Friends?Friends are an organised, independent group, working to encourage the extension and improvement of library services in the Great Lakes Shire. Friends are people who know that a community with a first-rate library is a better place to live. Friends love books and enjoy meeting people with similar interests. Friends of the library bring together involved, caring people who are willing to work for excellent libraries. HistoryMany Friends of the Library groups were formed during the 20th century, in England, France, Canada, United States, New Zealand, France the Netherlands, and of course, Australia, where our local group is part of a nation-wide association: Friends of Libraries Australia was launched in 1994 by Mr Justice Michael Kirby who is the Official Patron of FOLA. Friends of the Great Lakes Library Service (FOGLLS) was established on March 25, 1997.
