The National Year of Reading is being officially launched Australia-wide on 14 February and to celebrate the day the Great Lakes Library Service will be launching its very own competition.
We want to find out what our residents think are the greatest Australian books of all time. We’ve selected 50 novels to choose from and 20 children's books.
"In 2010 we held a Greatest Books of All Time competition, and it was hugely popular" says Council's Manager of Library Services, Chris Jones.
"This time we're being more patriotic. Residents will be voting on a list of amazing Australian novels. And because we know there have been so many great Australian children's books too, people can vote on them as well.
"What I love about the competition is that it will belong to the locals. It will be the greatest Australian books of all time - Great Lakes style."
People can pick up a voting form from any branch library in Great Lakes or they can go online and fill out the survey form at : www.greatlakes.nsw.gov.au/library
Voting closes at 5 pm on Friday 1 June and the winners will be announced at a special evening held in Forster Library on Monday 17 September.
