Centre Based Respite Services

Centre-Based Respite Services operates services in both Forster/Tuncurry (Great Lakes Centre-Based Respite Service) and Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens (Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Centre-Based Respite Service) regions.

The Forster based 'Daisy Club', 'Mens Day' and 'Ladies Day' and Hawks Nest Tea Gardens based 'Myall Dolphins' and 'Happy Days Club' provides the person with memory loss who lives by themself or with a carer with socialisation, meals and specially designed activities which take into account each individual's needs. The Service also provides respite to carers who may like to spend the day relaxing, shopping or spending some time doing a favourite pastime.

Centre-Based Respite Services offer individuals the opportunity for conversation, activities, morning tea and lunch, with an outing scheduled approximately once a month. Forster Tuncurry clients are picked up and taken home in the Service's wheelchair accessible commuter bus which seats 9 passengers.

Both the Great Lakes & Hawks Nest Tea Gardens services are assisted by dedicated and caring volunteers - whose time and energy are essential in assisting in the provision of these services and all of whom are responsive to the special needs of their clients. All volunteers have a variety of skills and life experiences as well as receiving ongoing support and service specific training, e.g. memory loss, occupational health and safety, duty of care, rights and responsibilities, etc.
