Burials on Private Land

Great Lakes Council maintains a register of all private burial grounds.  As Council's objective is to protect public health, no area can be used for private burials unless a Development Consent from Council  has been obtained.

In order to establish a grave on a private property, a Development Application is required to be lodged with Council prior to the time of need.

When lodging a Development Application, the requirements of the NSW Health "Burials on Private Land - Approval by Local Authority' guidelines must be addressed.  A copy of the NSW Health guidelines can be found at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/policies/gl/2006/GL2006_008.html
