Skin Penetration

Skin penetration procedures are regulated under the Public Health (Skin Penetration) Regulation 2000 and apply to all people involved with skin penetration procedures, including those performing acupuncture, tattooing, body piercing, etc.

Skin penetration operators are to notify their local council of their names and the business address of any premises where skin penetration procedures are performed, as well as the types or procedures performed.  This does not apply to health care workers for whom separate infection control standards are applicable under their Registration Act.  These health care workers include dentists, nurses, podiatrists and physiotherapists, etc.
