The Great Lakes Disability Access Directory is produced by the staff from the Community Services Branch of the Great Lakes Council. Its purpose is to provide information for residents and visitors about access to buildings and services, in the Great Lakes area, for people with a disability and their carers.

In order to maintain the accuracy of information within this directory we invite services and individuals to contact the Community Services Branch on 6591 7298 or Fax 6591 7200.

It is proposed to reproduce the directory in its entirety every three years.

An invitation is also extended to members of the community to attend Council's Access Committee meeting. This group is committed to assisting people with disabilities and their carers, to access the community facilities and services in the least restrictive and most appropriate way.

The Access Committee is a forum for people within the community to highlight areas where access is difficult. The committee seeks ways of taking appropriate action to improve access for all, and provides information regarding accessible facilities. It can also advise on how to provide appropriate access for different types of disabilities. Council encourages and welcomes suggestions from members of the community on ways to improve access in our community.

Meetings are held at 10am, on the 1st Monday of every month at the Council building in Breese Parade Forster. Alternatively letters can be forwarded to PO Box 450 Forster 2428 . For further information about the Access committee or its meetings please contact:  Janet Thompson Community Services Officer Great Lakes Council 6591 7240 or Allan Brown 6555-5080 Chairperson, Access Committee.
